Do your kids mix up their letters and numbers? That’s okay! It is very developmentally appropriate for young children to mix up numbers and letters when recognizing and saying them. To them they are a bunch of lines going every which way and early on it can be very confusing to distinguish the difference. However, the more opportunities you provide for children to see print and numbers the quicker they will learn the difference.
Here is a quick and easy activity to practice sorting them out while also working on some fine motor skills by making X’s and O’s! Ollie (3) did make mistakes but that gave us opportunities to talk about the differences in the numbers/letters! Make the mistakes a learning opportunity!
I just wrote A-Z all over the page and then filled in the open spaces with numbers 1-9 two times, told Ollie (3) the instructions and he was off!
