School (whatever that may look like to your family) is right around the corner so here is an alphabet game to “refresh the brain.” Kids don’t enjoy being drilled with alphabet flashcards, or always being asked “what’s this? What’s this? as you point to different letters. Your child will much more likely be able to retain information if it is presented in an engaging and fun way because as we all know…kids learn through play! Remember that your child does not need to know every letter by kindergarten (age 5) but rather what is developmentally appropriate which is 11-22 letters.
So don’t stress if your child doesn’t know many letters. They will get there…
I had my Kool Aid Rice leftover from my sensory activity so I was able to reuse some of that for this activity. I used masking tape and wrote uppercase letters A-Z on little pieces and stuck them all over the tray. Then I added rice on top to hide the letters. I gave my kids a paintbrush to find the letters to add a little extra fine motor practice. Since Max is 6 I had him find an uppercase letter, pull the tape off and match it to a lowercase letter. For Ollie (3) he did it matching the uppercase to the uppercase (do what is best for your child).
